A 50-year-old Pasadena man was sentenced to 12 years in prison followed by five years supervised release after being convicted of armed bank robbery and attempted armed bank robbery.

According to his guilty plea, on Aug. 19, 2016, Steven Murn entered a Pasadena bank wearing a cap and carrying a bag. After stopping by the check-writing station, he headed to the teller window. Murn was told to remove his cap and did. He put his bag on the counter and said, "C'mon!" but the teller said no, at which point Murn grabbed the bag and left.

On Aug. 29, 2016, Murn's efforts were more successful. According to prosecutors, he entered a bank in the 8100 block of Juniper Hole Road in Pasadena wearing an orange safety vest over a t-shirt and a hard hat with a towel draped beneath it, again carrying his bag. Murn wrote on a note "Bomb! All money now please." He gave the teller the note and placed what turned out to be a fake bomb on the desk and demanded money.

The teller complied and Murn reached over the counter to scoop up bundles of cash, leaving the bank and driving away in his car.

Murn was arrested the next day in Franklin County, Pennsylvania.

Murn assaulted a Pennsylvania State Trooper and threatened to kill officers during his arrested, according to information presented at trial. When taken to the hospital, Murn complained of having chest pains and was taken to a hospital. On Sept. 3, 2016, he tried to grab an officer's pistol while at the hospital, causing a struggle for the weapon. Murn was later taken to Franklin County Jail. On the ride, he kicked out the glass of the transport van and tried to wriggle out through the window. He was placed back in the van and taken to jail.

On top of his sentence, Murn has to pay $1,200 in restitution.
