Those who knew 21-year-old Morgan State University student Marcus Edwards are wondering who stabbed him to death.

Police are still very tight-lipped while they continue their investigation, but the university's president may have helped shed a bit of light on the situation.

"(Police) informed me that this is not a case of an armed-robbery," Dr. David Wilson, president of the university speaking at a town hall on the campus Tuesday night.

When pressed, Wilson said he could not elaborate.

It's been a little more than 24 hours since police said Edwards was found in the 5400 block of Loch Raven Blvd. after being stabbed in the chest. He was transported to a hospital where he died, police said.

His death sent ripples through the campus community.

"When I first started, it was never like this. There was never a lot of shootings. There was never anything like this," Danielle Burrus, a student at the school since 2008 while attending classes on-and-off.

Edwards is the second Morgan student to be killed within the past year after Gerald Williams was stabbed in an altercation in Feb.

Edwards is from Washington, and was at the school studying social work while living at the Marble Hall Garden Apartments.

"I stay to myself, I handle my business, I go home. I don't want to be one of those extra people that something happens to," said Cavonte Ruiz-Thomas, also a student.

At a town hall Tuesday, safety was the focus. President Wilson said the university was considering expanded campus shuttle routes.

"Once you step foot off campus, you're in Baltimore, at that point, so these things can happen," said Justin Dorsey, a student who attended the town hall.

Services for Edwards have not yet been announced.
