A Baltimore City man was sentenced to life in prison, plus 35 years, for shooting and killing a man as he tried to walk away from a domestic dispute.
According to reports, on April 14, 2012 Anthony Cole 30, rode his bike to the 1900 block of Ettings Street where he found his estranged wife and 34-year-old Phillip Scott sitting on the front steps. Cole exchanged words with his wife and smacked her in the face. Not wanting to be involved in the argument, Scott got up and began walking away. That's when Cole shot him twice, killing him. Cole then turned the gun on his wife and fired at least three shots at her. He missed and she ran into a nearby house and called 911.
On January 14, 2013, a Baltimore jury convicted Cole of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, two counts of handgun use in a crime of violence, and possession of a regulated firearm by a prohibited person.
The murder victim was married and had one daughter and four stepchildren.
