A man who disguised himself as a woman while committing a West Baltimore homicide is facing life in prison for  the deadly 2015 shooting.

A judge sentenced Brandon Payton to life plus 20 years for the murder of Steven Bass on June 12, 2015. In September Payton was convicted  of first and second degree murder, as well as the use of a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence.

According to Court records police found Bass lying on the sidewalk in the 2200 block of North Fulton Avenue.  He had been shot several times and died at the hospital.

An investigation uncovered video footage showing Payton dressed in women’s clothing walking along Pennsylvania toward North Fulton Avenue before the shooting.

The video showed Payton crossing Fulton and chasing Bass through traffic until he fell on the sidewalk in front of 2201 North Fulton. That’s where Payton stood over him and shot him four times in the back before running away.

"This case illustrates that Criminals go to great lengths to cover up their crimes; however, this case is a testament that my office will collaborate with the police and together, we will go to great lengths to prosecute and hold them accountable." State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby said.
