BALTIMORE - A Baltimore City police officer has been charged with eight criminal counts. Investigators say he lied about a fictitious drug buy and interfered with an investigation.
Among the eight criminal counts against Detective Adam A. Lewellen are four counts of misconduct in office.
Lewellen was charged by the State's Attorney's Office following an internal investigation by the police department.
"The allegations represent an egregious violation of the public's trust," said police commissioner Anthony Batts . "The Baltimore Police Department will not tolerate criminal wrongdoing or corruption among our ranks."
Investigators say Lewellen lied about an undercover drug bust in attempt to obtain a search and seizure warrant. They say he later interfered with the investigation.
