BALTIMORE, MD - In just about five hours on Monday, five men were shot in the city. It was a violent streak in an otherwise quiet month. The latest shooting happened after 8 pm. Monday; two men walked into a hospital with gunshots wounds, one of the men died.
"It's just a shame, you know, that you can't live in your area without hearing gunshots and stuff like that, you know?" said a neighbor who goes by Deborah.
Deborah describes the victim as a nice guy.
"I was just shocked. You know, that it happened out here, because I wasn't living out here that long. And to hear something like that, he was a really good guy," she said.
Detectives came back to the shooting location on Tuesday afternoon. It's a scene that played out many times two months earlier. In Janauary, 26 people were murdered. In March, that number dropped to seven homicides; the lowest number for a month since June 1983.
"What this shows is our dedication to our crime fight and reducing crime throughout Baltimore City. Even with these low numbers, we have an obligation to evaluate our process and continue our investigations to be sure were using our best practices," said Sgt. Jarron Jackson, a spokesman with the Baltimore Police Department.
The four other shooting victims were treated for their injuries.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact Baltimore Police.
