Family and friends remember transgender murder victim

Anthony 'Tyra' Trent's body was found last month

Police in Baltimore City continue the search for the killer of a transgendered woman, whose body was found nearly three weeks ago.

Family and friends came together Friday night to remember 25-year-old Anthony ‘Tyra’ Trent, whose body was found back on February 19th.

She had been missing for at least two weeks before her body was found in an abandoned home on virginia avenue in Park Heights. She had been strangled.

‘This is not for nothing. This renews my strength into fighting for the equal rights of transgender people,’ said Sandy Rawls, of the Baltimore-based support group Trans-United.

Tyra Trent's mother, Sundra Trent, was on hand for the vigil, and spoke briefly. ‘Hopefully we won't have to go through this anymore. And just thanks again everyone for all your support,’ she said.

Friends say Tyra Trent had recently been laid off from her job -- and they're angered by suggestions that her lifestyle could have put her at risk. ‘Regardless of who she was or what her personal choices were in life, her personal choices don't have anything to do with someone taking her life from her,’ said her friend Erica Fitzhugh.

They also say they don't feel police have done everything they can, to solve the crime. City police say at this point they don't have any suspects in the case.
