BALTIMORE (WMAR) -
UPDATE |Baltimore City Police report that Officer Olufemi Akinwande, 29, who was injured in a scuffle with James Brown, 41, who was later shot and killed, has been released from the hospital.
Officer Akinwande suffered minor injuries to his shoulder, police say.
Officer Akinwande is a 5 year veteran of the force and has no prior police-involved shooting incidents.
A Baltimore City Police Officer was involved in a shooting that left a man dead Friday evening.
The shooting happened in the 500 block of North Madeira Street in East Baltimore around 8:00 p.m.
Police say their officers were working when they noticed a man who broke away from a group of guys. Officers report attempting to question the man when a physical battle started.
The man then reportedly ran away. It would be when the officer chased the man that he shoots a handgun at the policeman, officials say.
Police add that the officer was not hit by the fired shots, but the man was killed when the officer fired back.
The officer remains in a local hospital with minor injuries from the physical confrontation, police say.
