Police said a Baltimore City councilwoman was beaten, carjacked and ended up in the hospital Friday after being assaulted in south Baltimore.
Long time Baltimore City Councilwoman Rochelle "Rikki" Spector fought two two teenaged males inside a garage in the unit block of Pierside Dr. around 10:15 a.m. Friday morning after she was thrown from her car and punched several times, police said.
The teens were attempting to carjack her, according to Baltimore Police.
The security gate would not open without a key fob, however, which allowed two workers to catch up and detain one of them. One 15-year-old boy was arrested by police while the other got away.
Spector, 80, said in a statement released through the mayor's office that she was "grateful" to all involved in her aid.
"This was something that she was determined to not have happen to her right then and there," said Baltimore Police Commissioner Kevin Davis.

Spector was first elected to the council in 1977.
"If it's fight or flight, with Rikki Spector, she's choosing fight," Davis said.
Residents living at two buildings that share the garage were notified of the incident immediately via email, a resident said Friday evening.
The property is managed by the Harborview Properties Development Company.
The second suspect is believed to also be 15-years-old and was seen running toward Key Highway, police said.
Davis said he's quadrupled the number of detectives on the streets in the past several days to help combat robbery-related crimes.
