A Baltimore Police officer was deliberately struck and then dragged behind a vehicle driven by a 63-year-old woman.
At approximately 2:40 p.m., an officer was called to the 5300 block of Leith Road to assist a BGE employee, who was in a dispute with a woman.
While the officer was investigating the situation, the woman, identified as Fredia Powell, 63, attempted to drive away, but she dragged the officer for a short distance with her Nissan Versa. The woman then deliberately struck the officer with her vehicle. She made a U-turn and, as the officer was laying in the street, attempted to run over him with her car.
Witness said they were trying to assist the officer, but had to get out of the way for their own safety. The officer was struck a second time by the vehicle. He was thrown over the hood of the car and onto the ground.
The officer then discharged his weapon at Powell. The round went through the passenger side window of the vehicle and struck the dashboard. Powell was not shot and drove away from the scene.
The officer is a 2-year member of the Baltimore Police Department. He suffered minor injuries and was transported to Maryland Shock Trauma Center for treatment and later released.
Powell returned to the scene and was arrested. She was charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, failure to stop her car at the scene of the accident and failure of a driver involved in an accident to render reasonable assistance to an injured person.
