BALTIMORE - A Baltimore police officer fatally shot a man carrying a “true-to-life replica gun” and not a real gun, the department confirmed.
Police identified the officer as 44-year-old Dean McFadden, a two-year veteran of the department. McFadden had never been involved in any prior shooting incidents before Sunday.
McFadden was placed on administrative leave after the shooting.
On Sunday, McFadden shot and killed Eric Harris, a 30-year-old Baltimore man, in the 5000 block of Beaufort Ave.
The shooting remains under investigation.
At about 4 p.m., McFadden on patrol drove into the middle of a shootout between two armed men, according to previous reports.
McFadden took cover and fired several shots killing Harris.
The second man involved in the shootout fled. He remains at large.
There were no other injuries from the shooting.
