A Baltimore Police officer shot in the line of duty while protecting his partner received a congressional honor Tuesday.
Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger (D-MD) presented Detective Thomas Young with a Congressional Badge of Bravery Tuesday afternoon for his heroic acts in northwest Baltimore in 2015.

"Detective Young's immediate reaction to the imminent threat quite possibly saved the life of his partner," Congressman Ruppersberger said. "His actions demonstrated extraordinary bravery and a willingness to save the lives of others, without regard for his own personal safety. It is my deepest honor to present him with this Congressional Badge of Bravery today."
Back in November 2015 Young and his partner were conducting an undercover drug investigation in Park Heights when an armed suspect confronted them in their vehicle. Young jumped out of the passenger seat when the suspect pointed the gun at his partner, and ordered him to drop his weapon. A gun fight ensued and Young was shot three times in the leg. The suspect died at the hospital.
Congressional Badges of Bravery are awarded annually to federal, state, and local law enforcement officers who engage in exceptional acts of bravery while in the line of duty. Recipients are selected annually by the U.S. Attorney General and medals are presented by their Congressional representatives.
