The shooting prompted a wave of disgust and outrage in East Baltimore.
"I pray for this neighborhood every day," said Romaine Maker.
There's no caution tape or crime scene, but people are talking about the violent shooting early Monday morning.
“It's hectic out here in the city,” Kenny Wilson said. “And the things people do is crazy."
A Baltimore City Police Officer on patrol heard gunshots around midnight, and found two people on the ground near East North Avenue at Greenmount Avenue with bullet wounds.
Investigators say a 30-year-old man was hit multiple times, and a 21-year-old pregnant woman was shot in the lower abdomen. We're told the baby was also hit with the bullet.
The victims were rushed to the hospital, the man is in critical condition, and the woman had an emergency delivery.
"Both the female and the baby are in critical but stable condition,” Baltimore City Police Spokesperson Donny Moses said. “We're hoping that they recover."
Police tell us a 25-year-old man was also hit in the crossfire. Officers found him nearly a quarter-mile away on East Lanvale Street. He had been hit multiple times in the left arm, and is expected to be okay.
"That's the worst thing about it, everybody running around with guns and nobody know where they come from," Wilson said.
Detectives don't think the pregnant woman and her baby were the intended targets of the shooting, and said she may have just been at the wrong place at the wrong time. But investigators don't have many leads.
"At this point we don't have any information about suspects, it remains a mystery,” Moses said. “All three people reported hearing the shots, realizing they were shot, but don't really know who shot them."
Police say the community needs to stand up against the violence.
So far this year there have been 289 non-fatal shootings. That's 31 more compared to this same time last year.
"I just pray for the families, and I pray that the pregnant lady and her baby are safe," Maker said.
"I don't think it was a random thing, I don't think it was a random thing, I think it was a mistake and whoever did it, turn yourself in, you know what I mean,” Wilson said.
Police say the 30-year-old who was shot also had 17 vials of suspected cocaine on him. Once he is released from the hospital, he will face drug charges.
