People who live on Popland Street say it was a horrible home invasion.
"It's a despicable crime,” said neighbor Greg Rivers. “It's unspeakable."
Baltimore City Police tell us early Tuesday morning 17-year-old Michael Myers and 20-year-old Brandon Manger broke into a house in the 1500 block. Inside, the 83-year-old homeowner was sleeping.
"She can't hear, she stays asleep up stairs,” Rivers said. “They bust the back window open and went in, gagged her, tied her up and gagged her, an 83-year-old woman."
Officers say Myers and Manger tied the woman up, severely beat her, ransacked the house and swiped $200. She was taken to the hospital bleeding, shaken up and traumatized after the assault in her own home.
Neighbors say Myers is no stranger to the area, and he knew the elderly woman very well.
"He used to go to the store for her, help her out, matter of fact, they was neighbors at one time and he knew her travels, knew her as a person,” said Rivers. “He knew she could hardly hear, so he took advantage of her."
Friends say the woman is staying with family, too scared to come home. People who live nearby are just glad she's alive.
Myers is being charged as an adult. He and Manger are both facing 22 charges including assault, burglary, robbery, theft, and false imprisonment.
"Whatever he gets he deserves," said Rivers.
