A 60-year-old woman died and an 80-year-old woman is in critical condition after being stabbed in a domestic incident in West Baltimore Sunday night, according to police.

Police have identified a person of interest but have not yet released his name. They said he's a family member and could be responsible for the brutal attack.

Police received a call at around 11:35 p.m. on Sunday from someone driving to a home in the 2500 block of West Lafayette Avenue. The caller was concerned about what was about to happen inside the residence.

“She was quite disturbed, said that someone in her family was pretty much going off and possibly the threat of assault was going to take place,” said Baltimore City Police Detective Donny Moses.

But when that caller and police arrived they were too late.

“We did find two women inside. A 60-year-old woman and an 80-year-old woman both suffering from multiple stab wounds. If you can imagine, the scene was quite horrendous, both were transported to an area hospital. The 60-year-old unfortunately died as a result of being stabbed,” said Moses.

The 60-year-old woman was identified as Sharon Dorsey, the 80-year-old woman is her mother. Police aren't saying exactly who's responsible but believe they have a good idea.

“He's a family member, he hasn't been charged yet, but we definitely need to get him off the streets,” said Dorsey.

No warrant has been issued because they're still working to confirm details. As of Monday afternoon, detectives had not been able to interview Dorsey’s mother, and are relying on the information provided by the caller.

“Her not being there and having not witnessed it, we're not 100 percent sure, so we have to make sure,” said Moses.

While they don't believe there's any direct threat to the public, police are still working against the clock to make sure they apprehend the man accused of committing this crime.

“We're relatively sure he hasn't gotten too far but you never know at this point. At this time, it's almost 12 hours later so we have our work cut out for us,” Moses said.

Police don't know what the argument was about but said whatever it was it should've ended differently. They added that there were no previous calls for service at that location and they're actively working to locate the primary suspect in this case.

Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at 410-396-2100 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP.
