A 16-year-old has died and two others have been shot in two separate shootings just five blocks apart in Brooklyn, Md.

At approximately 1:40 p.m. two teens were shot in the 400 block of Patapsco Avenue. A 16-year-old male was shot in the hand and arm and an 18-year-old was shot in the arm and back. The victims were transported to area hospitals for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.

Just two hours later, police were called to the scene of a shooting in the 3600 block of St. Victor Street. According to police, a teen male was shot in the chest and transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police say the teens were just walking the neighborhood streets when they were hit and residents are fed up.

"My niece is not even allowed to go outside," Melissa Brown said. "She can't go outside. She wanted a bike, she can't have a bicycle, she can't ride around this neighborhood. It's not safe."

Police believe the two shootings are related. Anyone with information is asked to call Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP.

Residents said that the police alone can't stop what they feel is senseless violence.

"In Baltimore there has been a lot of shootings and the only way we're going to stop this is working together as a community," said Baltimore police spokesperson Jarron Jackson.
