Less than 24 hours after the murder outside the Sun Valley Condominiums in Glen Burnie, the rain has washed away everything but an errant paramedics glove, a wisp of crime scene tape and the raw memories of the victim, 28-year old Ikea Jackson.
"Her girlfriend has a three-year-old. She was a good parent to him, and she tried really, really hard,” said Nikki Humphries, a nearby neighbor, “She was a good person. She was young."
Police had responded to a call for an assault in progress just before two o'clock in the afternoon Monday---two women fighting in the parking lot along Mountain Road.
"When our officers got there, there was an adult female that was lying in the parking lot up by the stairwell that seemed to be suffering from some type of stab wounds," said Lt. Ryan Frashure of the Anne Arundel County Police Department.
Paramedics transported Jackson to Baltimore-Washington Medical Center, but her injuries would prove to be fatal.
Her killer had already ran off before police arrived.
"Detectives are going to be speaking with her friends and family to try to find out if there's any associates or if anybody knows of anybody who would want to hurt her or why they might have been arguing, if she was in some type relationship that started that argument,” Frashure said. “That we're not sure, so that's just one of the many things we'll be looking into today."
In the meantime, the victims' neighbors will be looking over their shoulders, knowing there's a killer on the loose.
"I have two kids. We live here, and I don't know if it was random or if she knew that person or whatever," Humphries said. "It's scary. I had to have my boyfriend walk my two-year old daughter around police tape last night. It's awful."
Police believe the victim and her killer may have known each other. They are looking for a black woman, 5'8" to 6' tall, with a heavy build and short dark hair who was wearing a large white coat.
