Woman found dead in Popeye's Chicken store room identified

Police investigating death as a homicide

BROOKLYN PARK, Md. - The manager of a Brooklyn Park fast food restaurant made a grisly discovery when he arrived to open the store Sunday morning.

Police said when the manager arrived at the Popeye’s restaurant at 5317 Ritchie Highway around 8 a.m. he found the body of a female employee in a back store room.

The woman had significant trauma to her body. Police identified her as Luzviminda Monreal, 47, of Laurel.  

He coworkers knew her as simply Minda. 

"She has definitely become part of our family," said Popeyes General Manager Ebenezer Samuel. "She always carried a smile about her."

Monreal has worked for the fast food chain for 25 years, working her way up to management. 

Police declared the  Monreal dead at the scene. An investigation found she worked the Saturday night shift, but authorities don’t know what time she was killed or the motive.

Anne Arundel County police are investigating the death as a homicide.
