Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney Wes Adams released a statement condemning the alleged Crofton murder suspect’s pretrial release.

Ryan Gregory Hollebon, 38, was arrested and accused of stabbing his girlfriend, 28-year-old Jhalandia Butler to death.

Hollebon was arrested and charged with first and second-degree murder, yet according to Adams, this wasn't the first domestic dispute between the couple.

Adams said the suspect was arrested two days before on a separate domestic violence incident that “involved the choking, shaking, and banging of Jhalandia Butler's head.”

Hollebon was held without bond and stood before a judge where requests to keep him behind bars, or at least ordered to stay away from the victim, were denied, according to Adams. Instead, Hollebon was ordered to complete an in-patient program at the Martinsburg Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

“Ninety days after an Anne Arundel County District Court released Hollebon, he allegedly stabbed and killed Jhalandia Butler,” his letter said.

He went on to express his outrage.

"I am angered at another tragic loss at the hands of alleged domestic abuse. From the outset of this tragedy, one that might have been prevented, my prosecutors were keenly aware of the danger that Mr. Hollebon presented to Jhalandia Butler," Adams said.

"As prosecutors, we know all too well that domestic violence usually leads to more domestic violence. Therefore, as a rule, we do everything we can to keep the accused from the victim. Unfortunately, at that time, the judge did not heed our requests."
