GLEN BURNIE, Md. - The trial is underway of an officer involved in a crash that left two children critically injured .
The bench trial of Howard County Officer Symchay Bendu started Tuesday morning in Anne Arundel County.
He is charged in connection to a crash in Anne Arundel County from June 8, 2013. According to police at the time, Bendu was lost along Route 100 in Glen Burnie and tried to make an illegal U-turn on the highway where it intersects with Route 10.
While turning around, Bendu pulled into the path of a Honda and was hit. The crash sent a 4-year-old and 11-year-old to Johns Hopkins Children Center with critical injuries.
As a result of the crash Bendu was charged with four counts of second degree assault, two counts of negligent driving and one count of reckless driving.
The trial is expected to last three to four days.
