A 17-year-old girl was found dead of a gunshot wound in a home in the Robinwood community of Annapolis Monday night.
Annapolis Police said Kymici Brown's boyfriend, Ryan Surgeon, has been charged with her murder.
Police found a .32 caliber revolver in a trash bag in the closet of the home. According to court documents, the gun had one spent shell casing, one empty camber and four live rounds. Surgeon told police he and Brown smoked pot around 9 a.m., and he was playing with the gun.
"He started dancing around with the gun, he cocked it, it was a revolver," Cpl. Amy Miguez, a spokeswoman for Annapolis Police, said. "He uncocked it, he said, and that's when it went of striking Ms. Brown."
Brown's father said she was a good student and a track athlete at Broadneck High School. He also said she was his second child to die from a gun shot. He said his son was killed two years ago in Baltimore.
Surgeon was not legally allowed to possess a gun.
"Surgeon has had prior cases that prohibit him from having a hand gun, so he was charged with the violation of those terms," Miguez said.
The most serious charges Surgeon faces are first- and second-degree murder. Annapolis Police say there is a possibility that those charges may be reduced.
"In these processes the court sometimes reduce charges depending on what the circumstances of the case are. So it's possible in the future that the charges will change," Miguez said.
