Anne Arundel County Police said a taxi driver was assaulted and robbed by a man and a woman, with two small children present, in Severna Park Sunday.

Just before 1 a.m., officers responded to a 7-Eleven store at 600 Ritchie Highway for a carjacking report. The victim, a 61-year-old man, told police he drove to the store to pick up a fare. The two suspects, Leah Charnelle Ellison, 25, and Andreas Richard Robinson, 22, both of Washington D.C., had two children with them and asked to be taken to Washington D.C.

When the taxi driver told the suspects he’d have to be paid up front, police said they both became irate and started assaulting him. The driver was able to get away, but Ellison stole his cell phone and keys during the assault. The victim was then pushed out and the suspects got away in his car, driving southbound on Ritchie Highway.

Officers canvassed the area and found the stolen car unoccupied nearby at Evergreen Road and Lockleven Drive. With help from K-9 units, officers located the suspects, who were detained and positively identified by the driver.

The victim refused medical services, police said. Both suspects were charged with carjacking, robbery, unlawful taking of motor vehicle, second-degree assault, and disorderly conduct.

Child Protective Services took custody of the two children.
