Police are searching for at least one person they say left a small dog inside a tied up trash bag on a vacant property in Pumphrey.

Early Thursday evening, Anne Arundel County Police were called to the area of Shenandoah Avenue and Gibbons Avenue for reports of animal cruelty.  When officers arrived, a witness directed them to a trash bag located on a vacant property.

Officers opened the tied up trash bag and found a small dog inside the bag.  The dog appeared to a black and white terrier mix, approximately 5 to 6 months old.  Police say there was also a green granular substance found that has yet to be identified.

Officers wrapped the dog in blankets and kept the animal warm in their patrol vehicle until animal control took custody of it.

Animal Control immediately took the dog to an emergency veterinarian facility where the dog later died while being treated.  Police say the dog had no obvious signs of injury or trauma to the body.

Police currently have no suspects but are canvassing the area and passing out flyers.

Anyone who recognizes the dog or has any information about this crime is asked to contact police at 410-222-6135.
