LAUREL, Md. - A pair of shoes worn by a suspected robber tipped off the detective who helped catch him, Anne Arundel County police said.
Dave Adams Benissan, 23, of Laurel was charged with shoplifting from the Target in the 3300 block of Corridor Market Place in Laurel Wednesday. He was also charged with the armed robbery of a BP gas station in the 3300 block of Fort Meade Road in Laurel last weekend.
After a Target employee detained Benissan, Cpl. Kelly Harding recognized the shoes he was wearing as matching the description of the shoes the suspect wore during the BP robbery.
In that incident, police said a man entered the store with a ski mask and showed a handgun, demanding money from the clerk and running off with an unknown amount of money.
Detectives with the police department’s Western District were notified of the possible match. A detective looked at the surveillance video from BP and confirmed Benissan’s shoes and physical description matched that from the video.
After obtaining a search and seizure warrant for Benissan’s home, detectives found items that linked him to the BP robbery, including a black pellet handgun and clothing he wore during the robbery.
