HANOVER, Md. - Anne Arundel County police have arrested a Fort Washington man for allegedly stealing a shotgun from the Outdoor World Bass Pro Shop at Arundel Mills.
Sterling Henderson, 19, of the 3900 block of Oak Lawn Rd., was charged with second-degree burglary with the intent to steal a gun, theft under $1,000 and trespassing.
Police said their investigation into the theft began at 1:48 a.m. Feb. 1 after officers were called to the Bass Pro Shop, located at 7000 Arundel Mills Circle in Hanover, for a report of a business alarm going off at the store.
It was about five hours later when the store manager contacted police again. He told police that he checked video surveillance footage of the inside of the business and saw a male exiting the store through the inside mall doors, carrying a shotgun.
The manager then went to the shotgun display and found that a lock bar appeared to have been pried on and the bar itself was bent. He then discovered that a Beretta shotgun was missing from the display. Additional surveillance footage showed the suspect exiting Outdoor World into the mall turning left, then exiting through the emergency doors.
Police said on Feb. 2, officers were led to a home in Prince George's County where they arrested Henderson.
It is unknown what Henderson's intent was outside of stealing the shotgun, which has not been located. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call police at 410-222-6155.
