Passed out parents charged with neglect

Police suspect parents high on K2

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Two parents are under arrest after they passed out in a McDonald’s parking lot with a baby in the back seat.

Around 5:20 p.m. Saturday police were called to the parking lot of a McDonald’s at 2130 Generals Highway in Annapolis.  A concerned citizen called police after they noticed two people who appeared to be asleep in car.

When officers arrived they found two unresponsive adults in the front seat and an infant in the back seat who was alert.

Paramedics had to physically wake up the adults who police later determined were the baby’s parents.  Police found evidence of suspected “synthetic marijuana” also known as K2 in the car as well as smoking devices.

According to police, both adults slurred their speech during questioning and struggled to maintain their balance.  The parents were determined to be under the influence and were neglecting the child.

Police arrested  Brooke Amber Michael, 20 and Michael Patrick May, 20 on child neglect and drug paraphernalia possession charges.

The child was transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center for a precautionary evaluation.

Child Protective Services was notified and as part of the safety plan for the child, he was released to his grandfather.
