Maryland State Trooper was assaulted Saturday after responding to a Wawa in Halethorpe.

MSP said around 5:38 p.m. a trooper responded to the Wawa at 3716 Washington Boulevard for a report of a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot.

A 2006 Dodge Caravan bearing Maryland tags was occupied by a driver at the time the trooper arrived. The trooper made contact with the suspect and observed drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.

Subsequently, the subject was ordered to get out of the vehicle by the trooper and ordered to wait by the rear of the van until more units responded to the scene.

MSP said the suspect ran back to the driver seat in attempt to flee the scene.

The trooper tried to get the subject out the vehicle but the subject put the car in reverse and began to accelerate striking the trooper in the harm as he was standing in the doorway.

The van then began to accelerate towards the trooper, but he was able to get out the way.

The suspect went around the Wawa parking lot before fleeing the scene.

MSP have successfully identified the suspect as Anthony Schmidtman, 35, of Glen Burnie.

If anyone has information on the whereabouts of Schmidtman or the Blue Dodge Caravan please contact the Golden Ring Barrack 410-780-2700 or call 911.
