An inmate at the Jessup Correctional Institution was murdered Sunday, according to Maryland State Police.

John A. O'Sullivan, 43, was found in the prison's F building on a tier shortly after 10 a.m. by correctional officers. He was bleeding heavily from what appeared to be stab or puncture wounds, police said.

O'Sullivan was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.

The officers quickly took several inmate suspects into custody who were seen walking away from the scene. The Maryland State Homicide Unit spent Sunday investigating the scene and conducting interviews.

The victim's body has been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.

No charges have been filed at this time.
