Man targets escort in attempted robbery, police said

LINTHICUM, Md. - A woman told police she was dragged into the parking lot of a Linthicum hotel after man knocked on her door demanding money.

Anne Arundel County Police said they were called to the Extended Stay America hotel on Thursday just before midnight.

The hotel is located at 1500 Aero Drive in Linthicum.

The 21-year-old victim told police a man wearing a police vest knocked on her door and demanded cash after she answered.

The man reportedly had a gun and dragged the woman into the parking lot when she denied having money in the room.

Police explained the woman was able to escape somehow and alert a hotel employee.  Hotel personnel called police, and the man was able to get away in a dark-colored car.

Detectives came up short in a search for the man and do not believe the attempted robbery was random.

The victim had an ad posted to backpage.com, a website offering users free classified promotion space.  Police tell ABC2 News the woman was soliciting escort services.

Anyone with information on the robbery attempt is asked to call Detective J.R. Hartzell with the Anne Arundel County Police Department's Homicide Unit at 410-222-3460.
