GLEN BURNIE - Police say standing close to a Harley outside the Crossroads Tavern was what got a man stabbed early Sunday morning.
The call came in just after midnight Saturday over a disturbance outside the Crossroads Tavern on Ritchie Highway, but police soon learned it was much more than that.
"They found the victim, a 50-year old male, with an apparent stab wound to the upper body," said Justin Mulcahy of the Anne Arundel County Police Department, "Through additional interviews it was learned there was some sort of altercation in the parking lot between the victim and the suspect."
As paramedics rushed to the victim's aid, police received a report of a motorcycle crash on Magnolia Avenue in Ferndale.
That's where they caught up with stabbing suspect Brian Smith who had wrecked his Harley Davidson while racing back towards his home in the same block.
"The weapon that was believed to have been used in the incident was recovered at the crash scene... that being where the motorcycle crashed."
Police now believe Smith left the bar and spotted a man standing near his believed bike who he thought had damaged it in some manner.
He allegedly pulled out a knife and attacked him before speeding away.
Reached by telephone, Smith's wife says he had no recollection of what happened outside the bar where he's been drinking, but he now faces a sobering assortment of charges that, if convicted, could hand him behind bars for years.
"He's been charged with attempted 2nd degree murder, 1st and 2nd degree assault, reckless endangerment, possession of a deadly weapon with intent to injure and several DWI-related charges."
Smith is being held at the Anne Arundel County Detention Center on $250,000 bail.
Paramedics rushed the unidentified victim to the Shock Trauma Center with serious injuries.
