Crofton man found guilty of sexually assaulting 14-year-old girl

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - John Michael Winner, 39, of Crofton, was found guilty on Thursday of sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl, according to a release from the Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney Office.

Winner abused the teen from 2010 until December 2012, when the teen, who was 16 years old at the time, reported the abuse to authorities, officials said.

“It took tremendous courage for this young woman to come forward and face her abuser,” State’s Attorney Anne Colt Leitess said. “At trial, the State asked the jurors to end her nightmare. We are happy with this verdict and hope it will do just that. Protecting our county’s children is a priority for our Office. This verdict takes a dangerous predator off our county’s streets for hopefully the rest of his life.”

John Michael Winner's sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 30 at 9 a.m. Winner will potentially face 106 years in prison for four counts of second degree forcible rape and sexual abuse, according to the release.
