EDGEWATER - A Harwood man is facing criminal charges after allegedly claiming to be an undercover detective.
Around 9:36 p.m. Wednesday, officers with the Anne Arundel County Police Department said officers were called to the Shell Service Station in the 3000 block of Solomons Island Road in Edgewater after someone complained about a man with a gun.
When officers arrived, they found a man matching the description of the reported gun-wielding man. He was later identified as Dagineaux Monroe Thomas. Officers searched Thomas, but found no weapon.
A 30-year-old man told police he was at the station to put gas in his car when Thomas walked up to him and allegedly told him he was an undercover police officer, according to the release from the police department.
The victim said Thomas lifted his coat and displayed what the victim thought was the handle of a gun, according to police. Thomas then allegedly asked for money and added he was on a police sting operation, police said.
The man refused to give Thomas money and Thomas walked away.
Thomas, 43, of the 4000 block of Muddy Creek Rd., was arrested and charged with impersonating an officer.
Officers and police dogs searched the area, but found no weapon.
