MILLERSVILLE, Md. (WMAR) -- Police in Anne Arundel County have arrested and charged an 18-year-old who they say indicated on social media that he was planning to plant bombs around the Old Mill High School complex.
Police arrested and charged Matthew Permenter with disturbing school operations, threatening to detonate a destructive device and making a false statement in reference to a destructive device.
At about 8:45 a.m. on Thursday, the School Resource Officer assigned to Old Mill High School received information from school officials that an individual posted information on social media indicating that he was planning to plant bombs in the wooded area outside of the complex in the 600 block of Patriot Lane in Millersville.
School officials received information from a current student, who reported viewing the information Permenter posted online, which reported that he was going to target a "Relay for Life" cancer walk event scheduled for Friday.
Officers canvassed the area which was ultimately deemed to be safe. Permenter was located at his home, where police found no evidence of any bomb making material.
Through interviews, it was determined that Permenter made the online postings out of frustration for personal reasons.
