Man caught on video stealing packages off front porch of a Hanover home

HANOVER, Md. - Anne Arundel County police are looking for help in finding the person suspected of stealing a set of packages off the front porch of a home in Hanover.

Michelle and Daniel Pierce knew something was off Monday when they got an alert through their security system that there was a delivery made to their Hanover home, but found nothing on their doorstep.

Daniel says, "So I said 'Uh oh. Let me review the security tape, and I looked at it and sure enough, bam! Just like that, there's this guy taking off with my package."

Police said at approximately 4:20 p.m. Monday, the man stole packages from the front porch of the home located in the 1900 block of Ridgewood Road.

Michelle Pierce tells ABC2, "I was really surprised at how bold they were to do that, especially at 4:30 in the afternoon with people coming home."

Anne Arundel County investigators have home surveillance video to work with, but that's not all. They also have a description of the car they think the culprit was driving. The man may have been driving in a four-door dark gray Acura TSX with a partial tag of 333.
They got that description thanks to the UPS delivery driver who saw a note on the Pierce's front door. Daniel posted it describing what happened and included a picture of the thief in action.
Daniel says, "Sure enough, next day, he wrote me a note back saying, 'I saw the guy and I was this close to wondering if it was somebody casing me out' and it surely, turns out it was. The reason he noticed the vehicle is he said the vehicle he thought at first was his wife's. His wife drives the exact same color car, the same exact car."
Police are turning to social media now, posting the videos on YouTube, Facebook and tweeting them out along with the car's description.
This incident – which can be viewed in the video below –  comes after police have dealt with several cases of mail theft in recent months in Anne Arundel and Howard counties.

Lt. T.J. Smith with the Anne Arundel County Police Department says, "We are fortunate that a vigilant citizen has the cameras up and we got good images of them so we are really hoping that we can get this Grinch that tried to steal Christmas from these people."

If anyone has information on the incident or suspect please contact police at 410-222-6155.
