Anne Arundel County police officials say someone is going around spray-painting threatening messages to officers in public places.
Officers found three tags on businesses in a shopping center between the 5600 and 5700 blocks of Ritchie Highway. An additional "kill cops" message was painted on a sign in the 200 block of Hammonds Lane.
In a statement released Tuesday night, a police official said:
“As police officers we are always vigilant and realize that these types of threats, whether credible or not, are unfortunately part of this job in today’s society. Every police officer, from the Chief of Police to a police recruit in the academy knows that they are always in harm’s way, and willingly take on that burden to protect the citizens we serve. I am relying on our strong community bonds and respected partnerships within the Brooklyn community to help find the individuals responsible for these acts,” said Police Chief Timothy Altomare. "these kind of threats will not be tolerated in Anne Arundel County," said County Executive Steve Schuh. "Our police put their lives on the line to protect our citizens, and we stand with them against this cowardly attempt at intimidation."
The investigation is ongoing.
Any person will information is asked to contact the Northern District Detective Unit at 410-222-6135. A $500 reward is being offered to anyone who has information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual(s) responsible.
