Kayaker shot in Pasadena creek

PASADENA, Md. - A man was shot while kayaking on Bodkin Creek in Pasadena, police say.

Natural Resources Police are scouring the area searching for clues as to who fired the shot that hit 56-year-old David E. Seafolk-Kopp in the abdomen Saturday night.

Seafolk-Kopp told police he took his kayak out on Bodkin Creek Saturday evening just before dusk. As he paddled along he noticed a bonfire on the beach and the sounds of people partying. He looked down and noticed a small red light, like a laser pointer on his shirt. That’s when he felt a searing pain and realized he had been shot, police say.

Seafolk-Kopp told police he spent an excruciating night out on the water because he was in too much pain to paddle back to shore. He finally made it back to shore around 10:30 a.m. Sunday morning. A bystander called police and he was taken to Shock Trauma for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Maryland Natural Resources Police and Anne Arundel County Police are investigating.
