A Jewish school in Annapolis is just one of several Jewish institutions across the country that received bomb threats Monday.
Police said around 9:45 a.m. Annapolis police received a report of a bomb threat at Aleph Bet Jewish Day School in the 1100 block of Spa Road.
School officials said someone called and indicated there was a bomb inside the school. Staff and students were evacuated and the Annapolis Fire Department Bomb squad investigated. Officers and K9 units searched the school and did not find any explosives.
"There has been an increase in threats to the Jewish community over the recent months," said acting police chief Major Scott Baker. "We take these threats seriously and we will work to identify those responsible and toward a successful prosecution."
The Owings Mills JCC also received a threat just after 10 a.m. The building was evacuated and no device was found.
Jewish Community Centers and day schools in at least a dozen states received threats, according to the JCC Association of North America. No bombs were found. All 20 buildings -- 13 community centers and seven schools -- were cleared by Monday afternoon and had resumed normal operations, the association said.
