Kayla Yow’s mother says she’s heartbroken.
"She was just such a loving beautiful person, I don’t understand how something so tragic happens to someone with so much potential in life," Linda Lowman said over the phone.
She’s numb, blinded by pain.
"I still can’t believe it,” she said. “You just don’t think you will be burying your 18-year-old daughter."
Lowman says Kayla had a smile that would light up any room.
"Kayla was smart and funny, she loved to make people laugh, she was goofy, she loved to make obnoxious sounds and drive everybody crazy,” said Lowman.
But that's all just memories now.
Anne Arundel County Police say Kayla’s ex-boyfriend, Da'von Mullins, went to the Glen Mar Apartments in Glen Burnie Friday to see Kayla. But around 7 p.m., Mullins' family members called 911.
"Saying that they were receiving several text messages that they thought seemed strange, and that they thought he was possibly suicidal,” Anne Arundel County Police Lt. Ryan Frashure said.
Officers went to the unit, but no one answered. When they were able to get inside, they made a terrible discovery in the living room. Kayla was dead on the couch from what appeared to be gunshot wounds.
"They also located Mullins in an adjacent chair, that also appeared to be suffering from a gunshot wound," said Frashure.

Police say Mullins had a handgun in his lap. The 22-year-old was taken to Shock Trauma with critical injuries. He was on life support, but passed away Sunday.
It’s a murder-suicide loved ones say they never expected. Lowman tells us the pair dated for the last few months, but recently broke up.
"She had so many friend so many people loved her, this just does not make any sense."
Lohman tells ABC2 News Kayla moved from Florida to Glen Burnie to live with her about two-and-a-half years ago. Kayla got her life together, graduating high school in the spring and working. She wanted to become a social worker and a foster parent to help children going through things similar to what she went through.
Lohman started a Go Fund Me page to help raise money for a memorial service.
