Glen Burnie grandmother charged with stealing from teacher during school assembly

GLEN BURNIE, Md. - A Glen Burnie woman was charged with theft under $100 and disturbing school activities after she was caught stealing a teacher’s wallet during a school assembly, Anne Arundel County police said.

Theresa Yvonne Sayles, 49, who has a grandchild at Marley Elementary, was at the school Tuesday when someone caught her stealing the wallet.

A staff member told police Sayles first entered an unoccupied classroom and was questioned by the owner of the wallet. Sayles then left the room and re-entered through the cafeteria, police said.

The victim became suspicious and realized her wallet was missing from her purse. She then noticed Sayles holding her wallet in the cafeteria and rummaging through it. Sayles was also seen removing something from the wallet and throwing the wallet in the trash.

The wallet was retrieved and money was missing from it.

Sayles was arrested and told she’s no longer allowed on school property, and will be charged with trespassing if she returns.
