December is the month where we see the most alcohol related arrests and accidents. Anne Arundel County police are fully aware of this and are doing something about it.
We went along for a ride recently in attempt to get an inside look at how those officers are fighting drinking and driving.
What did we learn?
Holidays and parties go hand-in-hand. That's why Anne Arundel County Police saturate roads this time of year.
So far this year, there have been over 1,400 DWI arrests in the county. There are more than 60 in December.
Eric Trumbauer is one main reason why.
Trumbauer spent 8.5 years on the overnight shift. He's seen He's seen the damage a drunk driver can cause.
"Every drunk driving arrest we make saves a life," he says. "Getting that impaired driver off the road saved someone else that didn't even know they were being saved."
But, it's not just the drunk drivers they are looking for, it's dangerous drivers too.
"They (victims) have serious injuries," Trumbauer said. "They're paralyzed. Their lives are changed forever, because one person decided to get behind the wheel of a car and drive."
Saturation patrols in Anne Arundel County will continue through the holidays and run throughout the new year.
