Convicted armed robber escapes custody in Anne Arundel County

PAROLE, Md. - Elwood Veney, a 33-year-old convicted criminal, escaped the custody of the Department of Corrections Tuesday, according to a release from Anne Arundel County police. 

Veney was last seen in the area of 130 Defense Highway, at the State Highway Administration property. 

He was last seen running toward General Highway in the direction of the Annapolis Mall. 

Veney (see photo) is wearing blue jeans (no pockets), blue scrub type shirt with a gray sweatshirt over top. Veney is about 5-foot-9 weighing about 189 pounds. 

He has tattoos on his arm, chest, neck and right arm. 

Veney was sentenced to five years in prison for robbery with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm.

If spotted, police say call 911 immediately.
