Clarksville man charged with making false robbery claim

A 26-year-old man was arrested after falsely claiming he was robbed in order to cover his own theft from his job.

Anne Arundel County police said Bhaumin Bhrugesh Vyas, 26, of Clarksville, called officers around 11:50 a.m. Monday to report a robbery at the Metro PCS store, located in the 5600 block of Ritchie Highway in Glen Burnie.

Vyas initially told police that two armed assailants arrived at the store, brandished a weapon, completed the robbery of $500 and fled the scene.

As police canvassed the store, they noticed a ladder which investigators believe Vyas used to hide the stolen money in the ceiling of the business. Police said Vyas confessed to committing the false claim.

Vyas was charged with false report and theft over $500.
