Black Lives Matter sign destroyed, woman charged

An Annapolis woman has been charged with defacing a Black Lives Matter sign at a church twice in the last month.

Chari Raye McLean, 56, of the 600 block of Admiral Drive, was also charged Dec. 21 for removing the Black Lives Matter sign at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in the 700 block of Bestgate Road in Annapolis.

She now faces two charges of destruction of property for allegedly vandalizing the sign on March 1 and April 21.

According to Anne Arundel County Police, McLean confessed to spray painting over the word Black so the sign read Lives Matter.
