An Annapolis woman was charged with arson in connection with a building fire that displaced four adults and one child Wednesday.

Just after 10 p.m., fire crews were dispatched to the 1100 block of Madison Street for a reported fire with a person trapped inside. It took nearly 30 minutes for crews to control the fire, located inside of a bottom floor apartment in a three-story building.

Several other apartments sustained smoke damage. The apartment didn’t have an automatic sprinkler system or working smoke alarms, fire officials said.

An investigation by the Annapolis Fire Marshal's Office revealed that the fire was set intentionally.

Tracy Jones, 51, of the 1100 block of Madison Street was taken into custody Thursday morning.

Damages are estimated at about $50,000. The Red Cross called to assist the displaced residents.
