Two men are recovering from multiple gunshot wounds after police say they were shot in Brooklyn Heights Park Friday afternoon.
According to Anne Arundel County Police, the investigation revealed that the victims were sitting on a bench in the park when two suspects approached them and begin shooting at them.
Because of how close the incident was to Park Elementary School, the school was locked down and searched as a precaution.
Parents rushed to the school to pick up their kids.
"I'm still a nervous wreck. Especially around here, you never know what's going to happen," John Alexander said.
It wasn't only parents who were worried. Aliciana Brown rushed to the scene as soon as a friend called.
"I had my friend come here and tell me that it was possibly my boyfriend that had gotten shot and is dead so I'm just waiting for information," Brown told ABC2.
It turns out both victims, 22 and 24, are being treated for non- life threatening injuries. They are both from the Brooklyn area of Anne Arundel County.
Police said the shooting doesn't appear to be random and there is likely a connection between the shooters and the victims.
"Once the victims were shot, one of them ran out of the park towards the Brooklyn Park Library, where he collapsed. Somebody there then called 911 and that's where we responded," Lt. TJ Smith, said.
Police searched the area but came up empty.
"Pretty bold right in the wide open, right at a school that's in session, a library that's open, again, in a very populated area. So somebody probably saw something, we're asking anybody with information to call our northern district detectives as we're investigating this as we speak," Lt. Smith said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Northern District Detective Unit at 410-222-6135 or Metro Crime Stoppers, where you could be eligible for a reward.
