Update: Police say the two victims are currently in stable condition.

Original Story:

Two people were shot in the area of Pioneer Drive and Deerfield Road in Severn Friday night, police said.

At about 6:07 p.m. Friday, according to police, two men were shot near a shopping center near Pioneer Dr. and Deerfield Rd.

Damon Scott, a barber at a business within the shopping plaza, didn't believe it at first. he said both victims stumbled up to the barbershop where he cuts hair and collapsed on the ground.

Scott said one was suffering what appeared to be a graze wound and the other was clinging to life with a bullet wound in his chest.

The second victim turned out to be a friend.

"When I walked up on him, I asked if he was OK and he said 'I can't breathe' and that's when I realized he got shot," Scott said. "I didn't want the man to die because he's known me since I was a child."

"He was scared, you could tell he was scared," Scott said.

According to police, the victims, age 40 and 53, are in serious condition, but expected to survive.

A police spokesman said at least one suspect fled the area after the shooting, but believed there is no threat to the residents.

The crime scene stretched at least two blocks, and was right across the street from where Dawn Chambers lives with her two young kids. She came home from work to police flashing lights.

Chambers said the shooting was a concerning.

"I'm just going to keep an eye on (my kids) and make sure I don't see any strange activity," she said.

Homicide detectives are overseeing the investigation.

"I feel bad for him," said Scott. "I don't know what he did, but nobody deserves that."
