Two women were badly injured by an explosion at a financial services business in Westminster, fire officials confirmed.
A 38-year-old woman suffered severe burns and was taken to Johns Hopkins Burn Center. A 39-year-old woman suffered unspecified injuries from the explosion and was sent to the University of Maryland R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center for treatment.
Firefighters were dispatched to the 1200 block of Silver Run Valley at about 2:17 p.m., officials said.
A second-alarm was canceled en route as 50 firefighters took about an hour to bring the fire under control..
The building, which housed Premier Financial Solutions, Inc., was described as a single story structure with a basement. Both women were employees of the business that burned down Thursday.
The cause of the explosion and the fire remain under investigation.
