UMD lacrosse player charged in Va. sexual assault

A University of Maryland men's lacrosse player is charged with aggravated sexual battery after an incident at a concert in Virginia over the weekend.

On Sunday officers with the Prince William County Police Department in Virginia were working a security assignment at the Jiffy Lube Live venue in Bristow, Va. when a woman walked up to them and said she had been assaulted, according to the police department.

The 49-year-old woman said she fell asleep on the lawn area during the Zac Brown Band concert and awoke to find a man she didn't know lying beside her and touching her inappropriately, police said.

The man walked away from the victim and was later detained by police for alleged public intoxication in a separate incident.

Investigation led officers to believe this was the same man involved in the earlier assault, according to police.

Benjamin Chisolm, 19, of the 3700 block of Birdsville Road in Davidsonville was arrested and charged with aggravated sexual battery. He was being held without bail Tuesday. A July 17 court date has been set in the case.

The school confirmed to ABC2 News sister station WJLA  that Chisolm is a current student athlete and the school is cooperating fully with the investigation.
