Sykesville man found dead in drain pipe in Westminster

WESTMINSTER, Md. - A Carroll County man mowing his lawn found a dead body in a drainage pipe in Westminster, according to a release from Maryland State Police.

Robert L. Hawk, 54, of Sykesville, was discovered dead at about 11 a.m. in the 500 block of Baltimore Blvd., in a drainage pipe between two businesses, state police said.

“No obvious signs of trauma were observed on the man’s body,” state police officials said. “He appeared to have crawled about four feet into a drainage pipe, possibly to lie down. A shirt was folded beside him. There was no indication the man was trapped in the pipe.”

Earlier this week, a man matching Hawk’s description was barred from a nearby shopping center in Carroll County with a no trespassing order.

State Troopers found Hawk’s Dodge Ram in the shopping center’s parking lot. State troopers did not find anything in the truck that would indicate foul play.

Hawk’s body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.

Last week, police found the body of Hanover resident Prakash Rampatsingh also in Carroll County . The two cases do not appear to be related.

Investigator’s ruled Rampatsingh’s death a homicide.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call 1-866-7LOCKUP. A $2,000 reward has been offered.
