Just after 2:30 p.m. emergency crews were called to the site of an overturned school bus. The ride home for 42 Hereford Middle and Hereford High School students became terrifying. The school bus crashed, slammed into a telephone pole and flipped onto its side.

"The bus was traveling North on York road when it flipped over,” said Lt. Paul Massarelli, Baltimore County Fire Department. “The cause of the crash is going to be investigated by the Baltimore County Crash Team."
The bus driver suffered the most serious injuries. She was taken to the trauma center at Sinai Hospital. Officials said she was responsive and talking, but remains in critical condition. Nine students were also taken to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
Students who weren’t hurt were taken to Hereford High School to be picked up.
"The bus came and it dropped the other kids off, and they all walked in there,” Hereford High freshman Rose Cabral said. “There were firefighters on the bus and stuff, and then there were police cars here, and firetrucks too."
The accident occurred along York Road at the bottom of a large hill and on a bend just before the Gunpowder Falls Bridge. Students are glad the incident wasn't worse.
Senior Christy Ivey used to take the same bus home, and was worried her neighbors and friends were riding it.
"It definitely shook me up a little bit, when I heard it was my bus I got a little scared, I immediately questioned whether or not my little brother was on the bus of course, but he has a track meet, so he wasn't,” she said.
What caused the crash is still under investigation, and officials say it could take several weeks.
